Leonard Lewis was born with a natural ability to play golf well. After 10 years in military and government service, and wanting to fulfill a long time dream of being a professional golfer, he moved from the mountains of Tennessee to the green fairways of Florida, the best place for year-round golf. His plan worked out well, and Leonard played in many Pro tournaments. But also being a great people-person, teaching golf became his passion.
Tournament play and teaching golf left much unfilled time during the week. Leonard went into retail sales, and being a great people-person he excelled, eventually becoming a manager.
On the golf course one weekend, Leonard was offered an opportunity to buy a land clearing business in a deal he could not refuse. As Leonard puts it, playing in the dirt was a great experience to learn how the business world operates. Even better, Leonard took his knowledge of golf course layouts and helped update Florida golf courses by designing new fairways, bunkers , and greens, plus Leonard got the job of moving the dirt into his redesign. Again on the golf course, an offer he could not refuse came along to buy his land clearing business and Leonard sold it as quickly as he bought it.
Soon a friend told Leonard about a heavy equipment job working for a central Florida city government, which he took, staying for ten years. The city job required a CDL license, and getting that CDL proved to be a good move when the SelecTrucks job offer came up.
Lenard’s big thing is trust and integrity, no matter if you are giving a 7 year old a golf lesson or driving a big rig. The customer’s trust is most important, and that is why SELECTRUCKS TAMPA is a perfect fit. Trust, integrity, and honesty mean a lot to fleets and owner operators.
Leonard still plays in Celebrity golf tournaments, sponsors Military Veteran charity golf tournaments, and contributes his locally acclaimed BBQ smoker meats. In his down time, he enjoys being on the water, skiing or fishing with his son. For Leonard, nothing is better than Family time.
